2M3 was een open ruimte van twee meter in drie dimensies. Tussen 2011-2025 vond dit maandelijkse performanceproject plaats in een voormalig lederatelier in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek: geen witte zaal, geen black box, maar een plek tussen atelier en living, waar kunst, publiek, huiselijkheid en ontmoeting dicht bij elkaar kwamen.
Elke avond nodigde 2M3 één kunstenaar uit. Die kreeg ruimte, tijd en vertrouwen om de essentie van zijn of haar werk te tonen, te herdenken of uit te proberen. De vorm was bewust beperkt: een korte actie, een moment van stilte, een kleine ruimte, een publiek dat dichtbij stond. Net door die beperking ontstond vrijheid. De kunstenaar stond niet naast het werk, maar deed er iets mee, live en in direct contact met de aanwezigen.
2M3 werd gedragen en bezield door Pol Pauwels. Na zijn onverwachte overlijden op 20 juli 2025 blijft deze website bestaan als spoor, archief en levendige herinnering aan zijn manier van kijken. Voor Pol was 2M3 geen podium om zichzelf centraal te zetten, maar een plaats waar kunstenaars konden zoeken, twijfelen, mislukken en opnieuw beginnen. Niet het afgewerkte product stond voorop, maar het proces, de kwetsbaarheid, de ontmoeting en de liefde voor het metier.
Elke 2M3 was een kort moment dat er even was en daarna weer verdween. Wat blijft, zijn de beelden, de herinneringen, de kunstenaars, de gesprekken, het eten, het bier en de mensen die er samen waren.

2M3 was an open space of two metres in three dimensions. From 2011 until 2025, this monthly performance project took place in a former leather workshop in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek: not a white gallery, not a black box, but a place somewhere between a studio and a living room, where art, audience, home and encounter came very close together.
Each evening, 2M3 invited one artist. They were given space, time and trust to show, rethink or try out the essence of their work. The format was deliberately limited: a short action, a moment of silence, a small space, and an audience standing close by. It was precisely this limitation that created freedom. The artist did not simply stand next to the work, but did something with it, live and in direct contact with those present.
2M3 was carried and inspired by Pol Pauwels. Following his unexpected passing on 20 July 2025, this website remains as a trace, an archive and a living memory of his way of looking. For Pol, 2M3 was not a stage for putting himself at the centre. It was a place where artists could search, doubt, fail and begin again. What mattered was not the finished product, but the process, the vulnerability, the encounter and the love for the craft.
Each 2M3 was a brief moment: there for a while, and then gone. What remains are the images, the memories, the artists, the conversations, the food, the beer, and the people who were there together.
